Hello,

I have a choice between two microphones to purchase. Please tell me which one is better for my purposes.

Shure SM58 v.s Audix OM2

I will be using the microphone for Rock Band purposes for Vocals/Singing. They are the same price, and we will be using them for gigs. We already have one SM58 and we are purchasing another microphone for second vocals.

Please tell me which to get and why whichever is better. We have both of them but we have the option of returning the Audix we just bought for a 58. How could we compare them also?

Thanks,

I'm not sure which would be better - I think there wouldn't be much difference between the 2. Compare the specifications - frequency response signal to noise, higher number equals less noise. Personally I'd buy a decent external - USB sound interface.

We use a Shure SM58 for live shows and it works great, it's heavy duty and it has been dropped so many times you wouldn't believe, it has even been thrown a few times and it still manages to work very well. If I were you I would choose the Shure as they are known for making high quality mics for the price of almost nothing.

Condenser microphones are the most famous and common types of microphones you'll find in studios.Condenser microphones are generally much more expensive than dynamic microphones, but keep in mind, many cheap condensers are also availble in the market.Condenser microphones are generally used only in studios because of their sensitivity to loud sounds and the fact that they're quite a bit more fragile than their dynamic counterparts.

Well now a days there are lot of microphones are available but as I think that "Large Diaphragm" Microphones are the best among all of them. I also want to say that this are generally the choice for studio vocals, and any instrument recording where a more "deep" sound is desired.

I would just like to share my knowledge of microphones. If you're in the market for a new microphone it is best to get a recommendation. Each microphone has it's own sound, and are better suited for different situations. One can save a lot of money by knowing which microphones are better suited for their needs. I can suggest you audix d4 is the dynamic microphone you can go through for this.
